"PAWS TO READ" SUMMER READING PROGRAM
George P. Hays Library launches its Paws to Read! Summer Reading Program for
kids ages 5-12 at 1 p.m. June 5 at the George P. Hays Library, building 411
on Fort Stewart. There is no charge to participate in the fun, which continues through July 24.
The fun continues every Thursday, from 1-3 p.m. The schedule
includes storytime, crafts, visits by military police and therapy dogs,
movie time and a pet parade.
The Library’s mission is to provide access to all services, programs, and materials, regardless of format, in support of the Ft. Stewart mission and the Army mission.
A brief outline of the areas of access:
OPAC (on-line public access catalog) provides records of all the materials available at the Ft. Stewart Library, plus the materials available within the Army Consortium of libraries. The OPAC is available to you inside the Library, on-line through the Library web page, the Ft. Stewart web page, and the AKO.
- The Library has multiple discrete collections:
- Audio materials, fiction and nonfiction
- Children’s/Juvenile collection and YA, fiction and nonfiction
- Biography, in-house and on-line
- Fiction and non-fiction are available in print, DVD, and CD.
Magazines and Newspapers: The Library subscribes to various magazines and newspapers. The AKO, My Library, has thousands of journals, magazines, and newspapers.
Reference:The Reference collection is available on the floor and on-line. The Reference Librarian can help you with access and suggestions on how to build your research and reference needs.
The Army provides multiple data bases on-line, and access is through the AKO. The list is too large to list here; however, the on-line databases cover research, reference, and casual sources, e.g., home repair, decorating, and medical information. The copier, the fax, and the print stations are in the Computer Lab. Copying and printing are $0.10 per sheet. Faxing requires $0.25 – what a deal!!
There are 54 computers in the Computer Lab. All are connected to a public server. You must use your own name to start a session.
All new materials, regardless of format, are in the alcove across from the Circulation Desk.
All materials on display may be checked out.
If you create your Library account on-line through the web page, you may have materials put on Hold, renew materials, search for materials with different formats, and recently purchased materials. This is a great way to access the Library 24/7.
Hours of Operation are: Monday-Wednesday 0900-1700, Thursday 0900-1900, Saturday 0900-1600. Closed on Fridays and Sundays.
The Library is closed all federal holidays.
