The Red Cross movement began on a battlefield.
Today, that same spirit is present wherever American troops are deployed and
anxious families wait at home. The American Red Cross promises to be
there whenever or wherever our help is needed. |
Why the American Red Cross serves the Armed Forces Two purposes of the organization relate to activities with Armed Forces: (1) to furnish volunteer aid to the sick and the wounded of the armed forces in time of war...and (2) to act in matters of voluntary relief and in accord with the military authorities as a medium of communication between the people of the United States and with their Armed Forces. |
How the Services are Provided Volunteers and paid staff of the American Red Cross form a vast and unique network of service that provides help 24 hours a day for the armed forces with the use of modern technology. Staff at our Armed Forces Emergency Service Centers can efficiently provide time-sensitive services. This includes service at military installations and military hospitals, both in the United States and overseas. |
Reporting Services The Red Cross obtains its reports on a confidential basis from family members and local community sources (Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Ministers, Social Workers, and others) that have knowledge of the facts. These reports are handled in strict confidence. The Red Cross does not provide a service member with copies of reports or messages concerning the health and welfare of his or her family. Messages are verbally passed to ensure that the confidentiality of the service member and their family members is kept. Paraphrases may be provided on a case-by-case basis. |
Emergency Message Procedures for Soldiers The American Red Cross has permanent offices in Bosnia, Kuwait, and Kosovo. There are field offices located in other deployment areas. These offices service the emergency messages for deployed soldiers and offer other recreational services for free. |
